Best Practices

Get the most out of every tub

Dose the same day every month — pick a date and set a reminder
Avoid antibacterial cleaners, bleach, or drain chemicals on dosing day — they kill the bacteria before they establish
If your system has been neglected or has strong odors, dose twice in the first month then return to monthly
Store your tub in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
Maintane works in conventional septic systems, aerobic systems, cesspools, and RV holding tanks

Can I use Maintane if I'm on city sewer?

Maintane is designed for septic systems. It won't harm city sewer lines but it's most effective in septic environments where bacteria need to thrive.

What if I miss a month?

Just dose as soon as you remember. Missing one month won't crash your system but consistency is what builds a healthy bacterial ecosystem.

Is it safe if my kids or pets touch the toilet water?

Yes. Maintane contains only biosafety level 1 bacteria and table salt — the same safety classification used in research labs. Non-toxic and non-pathogenic.

Can I use Maintane down sinks or my garbage disposal?

Yes. While we recommend starting with your toilet — the most direct route to your septic tank — Maintane can be added to any drain in your home. Pour a scoop down a sink, shower, or garbage disposal and the live bacteria will travel through your drain lines and get to work on buildup along the way. If you're dealing with a slow drain or odor coming from a specific fixture, that's a great place to treat directly.

How long until I see results?

Most customers notice reduced odors within 24–72 hours. Full ecosystem establishment takes 30–90 days of consistent monthly use.
